Remote speakers will be able to share their own screens to the zoom meeting to deliver their talks.
In-person participants
Details of the conference programme, location and attendees, along with travel information, can be found by exploring the drop-down menu above. Here are some other key details about attending the SPINS-UK conference at Jodrell Bank.
Arrival
On day 1, refreshments will be provided on arrival during registration where name badges can also be collected.
Radio Frequency Interference
Jodrell Bank is a working radio observatory and radio quiet zone. In order to prevent any detrimental effects on our ongoing science operations, please turn off, or place into flight mode, any radio emitting devices you bring with you to the site, such as
● Mobile telephones
● Laptop wireless cards/Bluetooth
● Bluetooth headsets/Mice/Keyboards
● Kindles
● Smart watches
There is, of course, no wi-fi at Jodrell Bank Observatory, so please keep in mind that internet connectivity will not be possible until you leave the site. Please see a member of the LOC if you need to get online urgently during the meeting.
Talks
Talk slots are 20 minutes in duration and are expected to take the form of 15 minutes of presentation and 5 minutes for questions. Session chairs will keep strictly to these time slots to avoid using break times for overrunning sessions. Presenters should do their best to keep their presentation within their time slot. Session chairs will prompt speakers when the slot is due to end.
A computer will be available in the room for presentations in PDF format. We need the presentations to be uploaded in the main computer to be able to share them in zoom with the remote participants.
Please give your PDF presentation in a USB-pen to the LOC, at the latest in the break before your session. Remote speakers will be able to share their own screens to the zoom meeting to deliver their talks.
Lunch
Lunch and coffee breaks are provided by the Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement and comprise a fully vegetarian and vegan buffet on each day of the meeting. All dietary restrictions that we were advised of during registration have been accounted for, but please speak to a member of the LOC or catering staff if you have any concerns. Lunch and coffee break times are shown on the conference agenda.
Conference Dinner
The conference dinner will take place on Wednesday 2nd November at the Merlin in Alderley Edge. The coach will shuttle those without their own transport to the venue. The venue is just a short drive from the observatory. Following the dinner (at 10pm), a coach will take participants back to Manchester (via Wilmslow). The conference dinner is unfortunately not covered by the meeting organisers and will need to be paid by each participant individually on the night. If any clarification is required on ingredients/dietary restriction suitability of any of the menu options, please contact the LOC, or the Merlin directly.
First Light Pavilion Tour
A tour of the new First Light Pavilion at the Jodrell Bank Observatory is scheduled for 3pm on the final day of the meeting (Friday 4th November).
