Conference details
This year, the SPINS-UK meeting will be held in the Magdalen College Auditorium in Oxford, from 22nd – 24th of November 2023. We are overlapping this with the EPTA annual meeting, which runs from 20th - 22nd November 2023. The two conferences will come together on Wednesday 22nd November to discuss themes of interest to the whole community.
Financial support
We have a limited budget available to provide financial support to early career researchers to enable attendance at the conference. The deadline has passed for applications for financial support - all applicants have been contacted.
Remote participants
You will be able to join the meeting remotely via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom link and meeting password by email once registered for the conference. Remote speakers will be able to share their own screens to the zoom meeting to deliver their talks.
In-person participants
Details of the conference programme, location and attendees, along with travel information, can be found by exploring the drop-down menu above. Here are some other key details about attending the SPINS-UK conference in Oxford.
Arrival
Registration will be upon arrival at the Magdalen College auditorium. Please arrive at the College via the side entrance on Longwall Street: the entrance to the auditorium will be directly in front of you.
Talks
Full schedules for both conferences can be found in the drop-down menu above.
Talk slots are 20 minutes in duration and are expected to take the form of 15 minutes of presentation and 5 minutes for questions. Session chairs will keep strictly to these time slots to avoid using break times for overrunning sessions. Presenters should do their best to keep their presentation within their time slot. Session chairs will prompt speakers when the slot is due to end.
A computer will be available in the room for presentations in PDF or powerpoint format. We need the presentations to be uploaded onto the main computer to be able to share them on zoom with the remote participants.
Please either email your presentation to the LOC the day before your talk session, or bring your presentation to the LOC on a USB stick, at the latest in the break before your session. Remote speakers will be able to share their own screens to the zoom meeting to deliver their talks. Presentations should be emailed to lucy.oswald@physics.ox.ac.uk
Lunch and coffee breaks
Lunch and tea/coffee are provided free of charge on site.
Public lecture
On the evening of Friday 24th November we will be hosting a public lecture, "The discovery of pulsars", presented by Professor Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, which you are welcome to attend. The lecture will begin at 6pm and run for an hour, hosted in the Magdalen College auditorium.
Conference dinner
We will have a conference dinner on Wednesday 22nd November, the day of overlap, so that all in-person participants can attend. This will take place at 7:30pm at Al-Shami restaurant (al-shami.co.uk). A sign-up form for the dinner has been sent round by email to all registered in-person attendees.
